Anurag feels the urge of quality cinema

14th April 2011

Anurag Kashyap, Bollywood's cult director of the current lot, has been often regarded as the one responsible for bringing films of a different genre amidst Bollywood's run-of-the-mill films. Be it his sensational and controversial debut film 'Black Friday' or his film 'Dev D' that was a contemporary take on the saga of 'Devdas', Anurag has always been successful in turning heads with his off-beat, yet successful films.

The director, who's also a screenplay writer and producer, will be coming up with some interesting movies this year, 'That Girl in Yellow Boots', starring his girlfriend Kalki Koechlin and another 'Gangs of Wasseypur'. Anurag says that it was world cinema that inspired him to enter the world of films. He voiced his opinion that Bollywood has a long way to go to match up with the quality cinema of international standards.

Anurag Kashyap feels that there's no harm in making stereotypical and patent genre films, like comedy and romance (the Hindi film industry's favorite genres), if they are good and worthy. He is of the opinion that whatever the film, whether comedy or romance, it could have a better standard with the same script but Bollywood, as a unit, lacks proper execution.`
