Duffy: I wrote my album quickly

29th November 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Duffy says it only took her three weeks to write her new album, revealing the lyrics flowed out.

The Welsh-born singer shot to fame in 2008 with her bestselling album Rockferry, which featured the hit single Mercy. Following the success of her debut record, self-confessed workaholic Duffy decided to take a break from the public spotlight.

She admits she felt under pressure to record an equally as successful second album, but also realised she needed to rest and recharge her batteries. Duffy real name Aime Ann Duffy felt inspired when she began to pen the lyrics for her new album, Endlessly, and is thrilled with the end results.

The writing only took up three weeks of the 12 months that I was away. And I knew that it was going to be fast, because the moment I sat down with the person I co-wrote the album with, the ideas just flowed out, she explained in an interview on British television show This Morning. We were doing five a day because everything I was feeling was just flowing out. I knew it was going to be speedy, but I still wanted to cherish it.

The 26-year-old star admits her success has felt like a whirlwind but she was determined to secure her place in the music industry by releasing a strong follow-up album. Duffy wanted to prove to her fans and herself that she is a serious recording artist and not just a one hit wonder.

I think I needed to know that I had more to offer, the blonde star explained. I remember standing in front on 60,000 people and thinking, You have come here tonight for ten songs. Is that all I can offer? I needed to prove it to myself and I still do. I think you constantly have to be reminded about what you are here for and what you are good at. So I had to go and make sure that I could deliver something else I was happy with. (C) Cover Media
