Genelia D'souza lands in trouble

17th March 2012

Actress Genelia has landed in trouble with a Hyderabad court directing the Saifabad police to file an FIR against her and five others in connection with a scam of around Rs 250 crore.

The court order came after one of the victims, Ch. Tirupataiah, filed a complaint stating that Genelia is the brand ambassador and also one of the directors of M/s Anjaniputra Infrastructure Private Limited.

Mr Tirupataiah alleged that the actor made false promises through ads and brochures and directly cooperated with the other accused in grabbing his and others’ hard-earned money. A total of 500 plots were sold by the firm.

The First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) directed the cops to inquire into the issue and submit a report on or before 27th March.

According to Y. Balaji, Tirupataiah’s counsel, one of the accused, Sudarshan Kumar Reddy, while introducing himself as one of the directors of the firm, urged Mr Tirupataiah to buy plots in a venture at Kalvakol village of Maheswaram mandal with a promise that he would get duplex houses constructed on the plots within stipulated period.

Mr Balaji said that Sudarshan Kumar made repeated requests to Mr Tirupataiah, who booked two plots in December 2008 in the name of his son and daughter-in-law. Jyothi, who stay in the US, by paying Rs 54 lakh.

He was told that an independent house and a duplex will be constructed on the plots, the counsel said. After some months, when Mr Tirupataiah tried to contact Mr Sudarshan, he could not get any response. He finally went to the firm’s office, and found it closed.

Later inquiries revealed that the land that he had paid money for, itself belonged to someone else and not Anjaniputra Infrastructure Pvt Ltd.

Realising that he was cheated, Mr Tirupataiah approached State Consumer Forum which gave a direction in his favour. Mr Balaji said that as the accused didn’t comply with Forum’s orders, and instead threatened to kill him, Mr Tirupataiah filed a private complaint in court.
