(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Jayma Mays says shes never grown out of her awkward stage.
The actress portrays straight-laced teacher Emma Pillsbury on American series Glee, which is about a group of teenagers who love singing. Jayma is only 31 but as the programme is set in a school many of her co-stars are much younger than her. Emma is a guidance counsellor, and Jayma found the part hard to play at first as she didnt feel grown up enough.
I do feel like the elder stateswoman on set a bit! I think that probably adds to my anxiety I feel a little intimidated when the others come in and sing and dance because I dont feel up to par, she explained to Grazia. But actually, when we began filming the pilot episode I felt I wasnt old enough to be mentoring these children and playing their guidance counsellor because I still feel immature myself. I never grew out of my awkward stage.
Jayma is married to actor Adam Campbell, who she met while shooting 2007s Epic Movie. They live together in Los Angeles and are very happy together. Jayma was initially wary about dating someone else in the industry, but now says she cant imagine life without Adam.
The couple love living in Los Angeles and are evening thinking of starting a family there.
I probably lost 10lbs. when I arrived in LA just because Im from the South and there was no fried chicken and casserole anymore, she laughed. LA is a great place to be outdoors theres mountains and the beach. We think it would be a cool place to raise kids. (C) Cover Media
