(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Jesse Metcalfe insists there is "more to [him]" than his toned torso.

The American actor is best known for his role as John Rowland in Desperate Housewives. Jesse's fine physique attracted a host of admirers and he soon became a sex symbol.

The 32-year-old star is frustrated that his personality still gets ignored in favour of his looks.

"There is definitely more to me than my physical appearance," he told British newspaper The Mirror. "But I have to embrace it. It's not the worst thing in the world, having that sex symbol status.

"You need to have a bit of a sense of humour about yourself, though I get asked to take my top off on a daily basis."

Jesse says that women are constantly trying to impress him with unoriginal lines. The star is currently single and isn't interested in ladies who "chase" him.

"I do have the cheesiest of cheesy chat-up lines used on me," he explained.

Jesse's high-profile status leads him to be suspicious of women who show an interest in him.

The actor, who has previously dated Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle, would like to build on a relationship away from the glare of the media spotlight.

"Having a profile means you have to be cautious of who you let into your world as you don't know if they're being genuine or not," he revealed.

"But it's more that it can be a strain on your relationships. The reason so many celebrities try to keep things secret is you want the chance to get to know someone without the glare of public scrutiny." (C) Cover Media
