(Cover) - EN Star Style - Katie Holmes hair stylist has revealed the secret behind her retro waves.

The 32-year-old actress has recently been promoting short film The Decision where she plays the role of Joan Hudson a high-profile actress who decides to sack her colourist and dye her own hair instead. She collaborated on the project with hair care provider John Frieda to showcase the company's Precision Foam Colour product.

The Hollywood star who is renowned for her glossy brunette locks - showcases stunning 40s-inspired retro waves for the short film. Her hair stylist Harry Josh says that the beauty was very patient in the chair, as the look took quite a while to create. "Katie is probably the most gracious and kind person I have had the pleasure to work with. The hairstyle was labour intensive and she sat patiently," he told UsMagazine.com.

Harry has revealed the secrets to re-create the trend at home. He started by applying mousse to wet hair, and says that you should always use more of the product than you think youll need.

"The rule of thumb with mousse is to always use more than you think youll need, ranging in size from a golf ball to a grapefruit depending on the length of your hair," he says.

Harry then blow dried Katies hair using a paddle brush and made a deep side parting. He then wound her hair around a small 3/4-inch curling iron to create ringlets before allowing the hair to cool and gently brushing out the ringlets. The hair guru completed the look by calming flyaway tresses and applying a strong hairspray. (C) Cover Media
