3rd November 2011

It is the fifth season of the popular game show Kaun Banega Crorepati and the viewers along with the host superstar Amitabh Bachchan had been awaiting the first winner to win the highest amount i.e. five crores in the game show. This season of the game show saw many underpriviledged contestants win a good amount of money and brought a smile to many faces. While there were many who won the amount of one Lakh sixty thousand to 25 Lakh Rupess, none of the contestants managed to win the highest amount of 5 crores Rupees.

On wednesday night, 27-year-old Sushil Kumar from Motihari district of Bihar became the first claimant of Rs 5 crore prize money. The humble guy, who worked as a computer operator in government's Mahatma Gandhi Scheme before he appeared on the show, admits that he had never imagined he would reach the final question on KBC.

It may be recollected that while the first season of Kaun Banega Crorepati hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, had the highest prize winning money as One Crore Rupees, the second season, also hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, had two Crores as the prize money. The third season which saw Shah Rukh Khan take over the show as the host, also had the prize amount of Two Crore Rupees. However in the fourth season which  was highly successful due to the return of former host Amitabh Bachhan, had decreased the prize money to 1 crore Rupees and a jackpot question of rupees 5 crores was introduced. It was season 5 in which the highest winning prize money was raised to Five crore Rupees.

With Sushil Kumar, the simpleton winning 5 crore rupees, KBC has raised the hope of many and undoubtedly continues to reign as the most successful game shows of the country.
