(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Kelis says shes more prepared about life nowadays.

The 31-year-old singer was catapulted to fame in the 90s with her unique blend of R&B and feisty song lyrics, earning her an army of fans across the globe.

Despite her career success, the talented musician has undergone some big changes in recent years though, such as becoming a mother to 16-month-old son Knight, and divorcing rap star Nas.

Kelis has no regrets about the split though, and thinks it has helped to make her a stronger person.

That Im more prepared about life, she replied when asked by Look magazine what the biggest lesson she learned from the split was.

But I dont think thats just because of the divorce. Im a mother, Im 31 its because of all kinds of things.

The star was also philosophical about her success in the music industry, admitting things fell into place by chance. Kelis hasnt been focusing on singing as much lately, as she likes to make time for her other passions.

I started [in the industry] at 17 and really wanted to be on Broadway, but my career just happened, she explained, when asked why she took a break from recording before coming back with Flesh Tone this year.

I decided to do other things, like learning to be a chef, because I love having people over and cooking for them. (C) Cover Media
