Mumbai Continues To Charm The Filmmakers

January 18, 2011 (Sampurn Wire): The city of our dreams, Mumbai is quite a favourite to our filmmakers. Mumbai has always been an inspiration for various filmmakers and the city has often featured in their movies. The latest to join the group is Kiran Raos Dhobi Ghat where the story unfolds in Mumbai. Dhobi Ghat is the story of four people who lives in Mumbai and it is through the protagonists that Kiran Rao manages to show us a different perspective about the city.

Apart from Dhobi Ghat other movies that has Mumbai as its backdrop are - Sudhir Mishra's Tera Kya Hoga Johnny, Anurag Kashyap's That Girl In Yellow Boots, Ram Gopal Varma's Department and The Business Man, Ankush Bhatt's Bhindi Bazar INC, Sanjay Singh Mastan's Mumbai Chakachak and Ekta Kapoor's Shorr. In an interview filmmaker Sudhir Mishra let his heart out at the mention of his favourite city Mumbai. Sudhir adds that he loves the city and it reflects in his body of work. Sudhir also added further that Mumbai always features in his films. Mishra has vividly potrayed Mumbai in his films like Dharavi, Is Raat Ki Subah Nahi and Chameli.

Director Aman Mihanis depicts the story of immigrants in Mumbai Mast Kallander, which unfortunately could not set the cash registers ringing at the box office. Other filmmakers whose projects are on the pipeline are Anurag Kashyaps That Girl In Yellow Boots and Danny Boyle produced trilogy Bombay Velvet. Ekta Kapoors Shorr is an attempt to make a dig at Mumbai while Bhindi Bazaar deals with the pickpockets in the metro.
