Nadine Coyle: Girls Aloud were always separate

15th October 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Nadine Coyle claims her Girls Aloud bandmates left her to it when they were recording albums.

The British band also comprising Cheryl Cole, Kimberley Walsh, Sarah Harding and Nicola Roberts are currently on a sabbatical as they pursue their own individual interests. Cheryl has recorded two solo albums and appeared as a judge on talent show The X Factor, Nicola has been working on her make-up range, Kimberley has tried her hand at presenting, while Sarah has tested her acting skills. Nadine has spent her time away from the group working on her debut solo album Insatiable.

She claims Girls Aloud never recorded albums together and were always very separate. Nadine was asked to sing all the initial vocals on the groups tracks soon after they formed and claims she rarely saw her bandmates when she was in the recording studio. The 25-year-old continues to skirt around the subject of when the band will reunite, insisting the time was right for them to take a break last year.

"From day one. Well, maybe not day one, but definitely week two. And that's how it worked from then onwards. The girls just left me to it, Nadine said about recording Girls Aloud albums in an interview with British newspaper The Guardian. "And then they would come in and do their parts, and they would have their holidays.

"We were very, very separate. We didn't know it any other way.

"After the last record, it was the right time to go and do our own individual things, and then come back together when the time was right, if the time was right."

Nadine - who was advised to pursue a solo career before she entered Popstars: The Rivals, the talent show which launched Girls Aloud admits she was surprised when she first made it into the band. The star had expected to be performing live every time she was on stage, but she says she soon realised the groups outfits and dance moves were more important.

"For someone with my upbringing to do another TV show, and hear people saying, 'Oh, just, you know, mime to that. I couldn't get my head around it, she confessed. For it to be that easy. It became more about doing a cute routine than singing a song.

"It took a long time for me to realise, well, this is just what people do."

Nadine went on to discuss Cheryls solo success in the past year, saying she has done amazingly well before admitting she would have been left exhausted by the gruelling schedule. (C) Cover Media
