Ram Gopal Varma has cleared the air on reports doing rounds about the item number Dan Dan Cheeni... in his forthcoming movie Department, stating the song is inspired by a chartbuster of Superster Rajinikanth.

"To answer all speculations, yes, Nathalia Kaur's Cheeni song has been inspired from Rajinikanth's song aasai nooruvagai from his film Adutha Varisu," RGV wrote on his microblogging page.

"The rights have been taken... Rajnikanth's song has been one of my all-time favourites and Nathalia's song is a tribute to it," the ace director added further.

Choreographed by Ganesh Acharya, the song has been composed by duo Dharam-Sandeep of Rakta Charitra fame. "The music directors, on my insistence took that 30 second line from the Rajnikant song but rest of the song and track is their original creation," Ramu added.
