Sum 41 partied while making album

10th April 2011

(Cover) - -No story type selected- - Deryck Whibley has revealed Sum 41 partied hard while they were working their new album.

The 31-year-old musician is guitarist and lead vocalist of Canadian rock group, along with Jason McCaslin on bass guitar, Steve Jocz on drums and Tom Thacker on lead guitar.

The bands fifth studio album Screaming Bloody Murder was released last month and Deryck says the band worked on the record while they were living it up.

The singer says that his initial intention was to seek solitude and concentrate on their new material, but instead the property that they were living in became a party house.

Id wanted to move to a chateau in the South of France, like the Stones did in the 70s, something bohemian. The record company wouldnt pay for it, so we moved into a place in the Hollywood Hills, he told Kerrang! All my friends moves in shortly afterwards and it descended into constant craziness.

Deryck says the party atmosphere helped him to create the albums lyrics. He has revealed that his ideas were fuelled by the energy that was surrounding him.

There were so many people around and there was always something going on. Wed party at night and then that party would turn into a day party. When night came again the day party people would crash out, but more people would arrive, he explained. People were piling into the living room with Jack Daniels, falling over, crashing into things, but Id be doing a vocal take or recording on the piano. In the end, the album fed off that energy.
