Zoe Saldana: Rockers have good locks

26th August 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Zoe Saldana thinks lions are like rock stars because they both have "good hair".

The actress has been compared to a jaguar in the past because she's always on the move, although she prefers to think of herself as apelike. She has a lot of time for the animal kingdom, although she doesn't understand why people say lions are the kings of the jungle.

"I'm obsessed with wolves. From their social structure to their communities, I think we take more as a human species from wolves than lions. For me, the lion is such a loser! In the animal kingdom... he sleeps all day, steals from his women and eats his cubs. But they are beautiful because they have great hair. Like a rock star, I guess," she mused.

Zoe is best known for her portrayal of Neytiri in 2009 smash Avatar. The 33-year-old had been in Hollywood blockbusters before that though, having been cast as Anamaria in 2003's Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

The star didn't enjoy filming the Pirates movie, although she won't reveal what made her unhappy.

"I didn't like the experience of working on Pirates and I feel that it is my job to be completely honest. To me, that's what a Hollywood movie felt like. If that's what I have to witness, and have to go through, to do a Hollywood movie, I'd rather do something else," she told British newspaper The Independent. "It was just too massive. You really felt the immensity of it. Just not my taste."

The experience was so rough Zoe initially wondered whether she wanted to continue in movies. She's been a dancer before and considered returning, but being cast in Steven Spielberg's The Terminal changed her feelings.

"I think for three or four months of that year I was like, 'I don't know if I really want to do this. Maybe I will do something else. Maybe theatre or go back to ballet,'" she revealed.

"[The Terminal] was another Hollywood movie, and my experience was completely different. It felt to me more appropriate of what filmmaking should be about. So I kept chasing that dragon as opposed to the other one." (C) Cover Media
