(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Andrew Garfield has revealed he was bullied when he was at school.

The 27-year-old British actor is enjoying a flourishing career in Hollywood after landing roles in The Social Network, Never Let Me Go and the title role in Spider-Man. Andrew admits he wasnt always that popular when he was growing up and was sometimes teased by his classmates. The star says the experience has helped him to relate to Peter Parker, Spider-Mans geeky alter-ego, who also had a hard time at school.

Of course, every school has their bullies, and when youre a kid you wish you had the power to fight them and protect other people - and yourself, Andrew said in an interview with British newspaper The Daily Mail. School's hard. I think everyone has been bullied at some point. Kids can be incredibly cruel. On certain days you would come home and think, 'Today was really horrible, so I guess I have been bullied and I think everyone has been bullied at some point by some figure in their life. I don't think anyone can escape it.

Andrew is thrilled to have landed the role of Spider-Man and found it surreal and overwhelming the first time he wore the famous suit. He says he loved reading about the Marvel Comics superhero when he was younger and hopes the role will help his young fans stand up to bullies.

I haven't really thought of playing Spider-Man in the context of revenge upon those who bullied me. In all seriousness it's not a revenge move. But as a boy I probably wished I'd been bigger and stronger to help others and myself, he explained.

Spider-Man was my favourite superhero. I guess I found him easiest to relate to. His struggle was profound, and I understood it. (C) Cover Media
