Gary Oldman: Batman script is a cracker

10th March 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Gary Oldman says it was hard to top Heath Ledger in the upcoming Batman movie.

The 52-year-old plays Police Commissioner James Gordon in the Christopher Nolan directed series. Heath portrayed The Joker in 2008s The Dark Knight, and died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs after filming ended. He was lauded for his portrayal of the character, and it won him a posthumous Oscar.

Gary says upcoming Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises has a cracker of a script, but it will still be difficult to out-do the performance of tragic actor Heath.

"It's all sort of top secret, but it's a great story," Oldman told Extra. "How are you going to top Heath Ledger and The Dark Knight? Nolan has come up with a cracking script. It's got a scope to it and brings it back, connecting it with Batman Begins. You won't be disappointed."

The Dark Knight was a huge success and received eight Academy Award nominations. It won two, bagging the best sound editing prize and Heath taking the best supporting actor gong.

Gary is renowned for portraying dark characters, and can soon be seen as the werewolf in Little Red Riding Hood, which also stars Amanda Seyfried. He doesnt mind being linked to such roles, as he thinks it shows hes doing something right.

No, it just depends. I guess people remember those roles. People remember The Professional. Youre not really going to remember Robert De Niro from Meet The Fockers, he added. (C) Cover Media
