George Clooney arrested for crossing police line

16th March 2012

George Clooney was arrested in Washington D.C after crossing a police line while leading a protest outside the Sudanese embassy.

The Hollywood star was handcuffed along with his father Nick, Democratic politician Jim Moran of Virginia and civil rights leader Ben Jealous.

He has been booked into a Washington D.C. police station after he was taken away by the uniformed division of the U.S. Secret Service following three warnings not to cross the line.

The actor's publicist confirmed the arrest to TMZ.

"They were protesting the violence committed by the government of Sudan on its own innocent men, women and children. They were demanding they allow humanitarian aid into the country before it becomes the largest humanitarian crisis in the world," Stan Rosenfield told the US website.

Sources close to George also revealed that the actor "feels good about the arrest because it puts the spotlight on the crisis".

George spoke passionately about the humanitarian issue before being carried away. The Ides of March star and fellow protestors accused Sudan's president Omar al-Bashir of locking food and aid to the country.

"First, immediately we need humanitarian aid to be allowed into the Sudan," Clooney said, according to RadarOnline."Second they need to stop randomly killing innocent men, women and children. They need to stop raping them."

The star's arrest comes after his testimony in the US Senate on Wednesday about his dangerous mission to the volatile border region between Sudan and South Sudan last week. He met with US Secretary Hillary Clinton and American President Barack Obama in the Oval Office.
