On September 30, 2016 the much awaited film of the year 'M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story' starring Sushant Singh Rajput released worldwide and made a good opening collection. The film pocketed a good amount of Rs. 41 cr in its opening weekend. According to a statement issued by the makers the film collected Rs. 20.6 crore on Saturday taking the two-day collection to Rs 41.9 cr. The biopic was released tax-free in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox star studios, said in a statement, "We thank India for this overwhelming love for the biopic on Mahendra Singh Dhoni's life. He is the son of the soil and it's absolutely amazing to see that we have lived up to the expectations of the cricket fans, his fans and the movie going audience."

Arun Pandey said in a statement, "We can only say 'Thank You, India'. We have tried to do justice to your love for Mahi."
