(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Tim Burton wanted to be a "mad scientist" when he was younger.

The movie director has discussed what inspires his hit films, such as Edward Scissorhands and Corpse Bride. The 54-year-old star finds it strange when people say his releases are dark or about death because he thinks they are much more positive.

"When I was a kid I wanted to be a mad scientist," Tim explained to Cover Media. "It's not so much about me wanting to bring things back to life. That's creepy. It's more about me wanting to create things."

Tim chose to make his latest offering Frankenweenie in black and white. The plot follows school boy Victor, who brings his dog Sparky back from the dead.

Although the story sounds straight out of a horror film, Tim insists fear doesn't drive him when he's directing.

"I'm not obsessed with horror," Tim explained. "I don't find my movies dark. From the beginning all my films have been labelled dark but I haven't ever seen them like that. I see things differently."

Frankenweenie is released in the UK on October 17. (C) Cover Media
