David Beckham has turned down the opportunity to move to French soccer team Paris Saint-Germain for "family reasons".
The star was in negotiations to move over to the Paris team after his five year contract with LA Galaxy ended on December 31.
However, David decided against the move as he believes it would have caused too much upset for his family.
"He will not come to PSG," the club's sporting director Leonardo told www.lequipe.fr. "[Because of] family reasons. It's a shame."
David has four children with his fashion designer wife Victoria.
His sons Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, nine, Cruz, six and their baby sister Harper are all settled in Los Angeles.
The former England captain was reluctant to upturn their lives for his own career.
"The welfare of his family in Los Angeles, the wish not to change everything in his life, weighed heavily," Leonardo added.
The 36-year-old sports star was reportedly set to earn $1 million a month after tax in the new deal a total of $6 million during the contract.
That figure was then expected to increase due to a lucrative marketing contract which was included in the agreement.
David has not yet commented on the decision.
