"Despite movies are produced by spending crores of rupees and with efforts from world class technicians, most of the cinema halls lack quality projectors and this makes audience to see low quality picture on screen", laments producer of Simbu starrer Osthi, Ramesh.

"It is not just that the audiences are forced to watch low quality picture, but their eyes and ears are facing health threats because of such projectors. We are planning to meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to seek her intervention in this regard and we have given letter for her appointment", he said in a press release.

Ramesh, who produced Dhanush-starrer Uthamaputhiran and now making Simbu starrer Osthi on a grand budget, further said that there are prescribed norms for projectors to be installed at theatres. "Cinema halls should install projectors of 4k quality."

But of late, most theatres are not following this. Maximum number of cinema halls have projectors with less than 1k quality. Even popular theatre complexes are no exception to this. In many multiplexes, only one screen has the prescribed quality and the other screens are run with poor quality projectors. There are meters to ensure these norms in foreign countries. But in India there is no such apparatus.

The projects which are used in many cinema halls are fit for seminars only and not for film projection. But some companies which control the business distribute low quality projects

When a case was filed in the court against poor quality projection, an influential woman lawyer appeared on behalf of those companies. These firms were sent out of Bangladesh and Malaysia for offering poor quality equipment. But they dictate terms in India.

We are seriously planning to take the issue to the notice of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. Also, we wonder why industry veterans, especially those in organisations like FICCI, are maintaining silence over the issue.

To protect the interests of the audience, rules should be strictly implemented in cinema halls, he concluded.
